Stratford based artist Mike Barker has been honing his skills as a landscape, watercolour painter over the last several years. Originally a graphic designer, he draws on his 20+ years experience as a commercial artist to inform his creative sensibility and influence his artistic vision. Mike now focuses his creative energy producing one-of-a-kind watercolour paintings of the beautiful, northern Ontario landscape.
Mike’s evolution into a landscape painter stems from his passion for the outdoors and love of nature. Through his work, he endeavours to capture the feelings of solitude and freedom one gets when communing with nature. Mike works in watercolour as he believes it is the medium that best suits his subject. It is as untameable as mother nature, which serves as a reminder that we are a part of nature, not apart from it.
